Community Service

Medicine is a career of service. As a doctor you will serve your patients and your community. Involving yourself in community service by volunteering or implementing a service project is a great way to show medical schools that you know what service means. It also shows your interest to learn and your commitment to work in underserved populations.

Note that premeds of color have the added responsibility of being the link that fills the healthcare gap between their ethnic communities (very often underserved) and the healthcare system. Does your service history show that?
